I had set myself a very special goal for a project for Wolfgang Borchert's 100th birthday: I wanted to bring Borchert back to life and make him our contemporary. To achieve this, I experimented with various AI algorithms. In the end, I decided on a model that uses a driving video to control Borchert's portrait like a marionette. In this way, I animated the archived still images with my mimic and brought Borchert back to life.
To accompany this animation, I created an illustration that shows what Borchert might look like today if he had been 100 years old. Bringing Borchert to life allowed us to see Borchert as a living person. It brings us closer to his experiences and messages and transforms Borchert into a contemporary whose work and character can be experienced in a unique new way.
