Ganwerk is a collection of AI techniques and algorithms that I, as a designer, find interesting and see new design potential in.
The project I started in February 2022 represents the first part of the design revolution that became apparent in the first half of 2022. A common element in the series is a neutral self-portrait from the thismaskdoesnotexist/Maskenmaker project of 2020 and the accompanying image description "A young bald man". This allows me to establish comparability between the image-generating algorithms and observe their individual effects.
The project is currently in a second phase: after Midjourney, Dall-E, and Stable Diffusion have established themselves as standard tools in the following year 2023, I am now looking more at the settings and control options in the open-source program Stable Diffusion. It involves a significantly grown ecosystem of different tools around the generative diffusion model by stability.ai.
My observations so far include comments on biases and various setting options, as well as the unique (technical) stylistics that can be created with AI.
